Easter and wine: a tradition

Easter and wine: a tradition

Easter is not just about almonds, chocolate eggs and rabbits; a good wine completes this festivity!

The origin of the tradition of drinking wine at Easter is not exact, but is probably related to Holy Communion, in which wine and bread are the main foods.

How to combine wine with Easter lunch?

Snacks

If at your Easter lunch you decide to serve fried snacks, some sparkling wines can be good options, as they intensify the flavours and balance the flavour of the fried foods.

Fish dishes

As we already know, fish dishes pair perfectly with white wine. The wine must be light and fresh to accompany the smoothness of the fish. Usually, the most consumed fish is cod. In addition, white wines also accompany dishes containing orange, lemon and spices.

However, we can also include here some red wines that combine with fish and seafood. Be careful: red wines with strong tannins overlap with the taste of these more delicate foods, so don't use them. The most suitable red wines are those with lower levels of tannins, such as Pinot Noir (for more fatty fish such as salmon) or Merlot (for grills with strong seasoning, for example).

Meat dishes

Meat dishes cannot, of course, be missed at Easter. Throughout the country, lamb, kid, veal, rabbit are consumed in the various regions. With these stronger dishes you can choose a Touriga Nacional, Cabernet Sauvignon or Alicante Bouschet.

Dessert

When it comes to Easter, one dessert that comes to mind right away is chocolate. As for chocolate desserts, what is best is a good Port wine, especially when it comes to dark chocolate.
