How to Harmonize Wine and Fruit?

There is a lot of talk about pairing wines with savouries, appetizers and cheeses, but it is also important to talk about fruit. The truth is that wine goes with almost anything, as long as you choose the right wine.

The lighter, sweeter and fruity wines combine best with fruit. Aromatic white, rosé and sparkling wines are the most recommended, for example Malvasia, Sauvignon Blanc or Moscatel.

If you decide to order a fruit salad, it's a good idea to combine it with a sparkling muscat. With oranges, peaches or strawberries, a light, fruity and fresh red wine can go well, for example a Pinot Noir.

With dried fruits such as figs, dates, apricots and walnuts, a glass of Vintage Port goes very well. But beware, prefer dried fruits, such as walnuts and almonds, without salt, as this element can spoil the pairing with the wine. If you want to consume these fruits with salt, then choose white or lighter red wines. Also, within Port wines, these generally harmonize well with red fruits such as blackberries, raspberries and strawberries.

Melon, on the other hand, is a very versatile fruit, which can be combined with white or light red wines. This fruit is used on cheese and appetizer tables, with the aim of softening the saltiness of the dishes. The great advantage of melon is that it is available all year round.
