Autumn wines: choose the best possible options!

Autumn wines: choose the best possible options!

Summer combines with fruity and refreshing wines, while winter calls for more intense and full-bodied wines. But, what about autumn? This beautiful season has already started and we are going to take the opportunity to help you choose the best autumn wines.

1 – Choose wines that are a little more full-bodied

Full-bodied or medium-bodied wines are warmer and therefore ideal for this season, when the days start to get colder. Furthermore, they have smoother characteristics, the wines are softer and have balanced tannins. Remember that white wines can also be included; we recommend more woody white wines.

Good varietal options are Malbec, Syrah and Cabernet Franc. Perfectly paired with hot food.

2 – Wines with more intensity and flavour

As we mentioned above, these wines are softer and have characteristic aromas. You can choose wines with aromas of spices, wood, chocolate and ripe fruit. They are excellent autumn wines, as they have balanced acidity and medium body.

3 – Find the right harmonization

Autumn calls for heavier and more nutritious dishes, leading to the growing consumption of red meat, with which Cabernet Sauvignon blends well. If you want grilled dishes, opt for a Pinot Noir. If your dish has strong cheeses, Syrah is a good option. And, of course, you can't miss the chestnuts, so present at this time of year! With chestnuts, a good smooth and soft red, a floral and fruity Alvarinho or even a Douro rosé, with intense aromas of red fruits, is good.

With these tips, you'll be able to find a good autumn wine easily.
